We took you on the food tour in New Orleans, now it is time to have a little fun. There is plenty of non stop excitement in New Orleans. From live music on Frenchment Street to cocktails on Bourbon Street there is an option to satisfy everyone’s mood during a night out in New Orleans. Where shall we meet up?
Sazerac Bar
Cocktails anyone? Thirties elegance and classic cocktails in the beautiful restored Roosevelt Hotel (official Niche Mommy 2012 hotel). The perfect place to sample a Sazerac – the official cocktail of New Orleans – or a Ramos Gin Fizz, both of which were perfected here.
Frenchmen Street
If it’s music that you crave or just a peek into the New Orleans way of life, then Frenchmen Street is a must-see. Light years removed from the glitzy neon lights and blaring cover music of Bourbon Street but, in reality, only walking distance away, is a compact musical enclave where the “locals” hang out. A two-block-long entertainment district where, on any given night of the week you can hear live sounds and a wide variety of music as only New Orleans musicians can perform. It offers an amazing variety of venue styles and music ranging from traditional jazz to blues to reggae to rock. Frenchmen offers a lively street culture that means the fun spills out from the bars and music venues. Sketch artists and poets line the sidewalk and bluegrass and gypsy jazz pick-up bands nestle into stoops along the strip. Brass bands are commonly found on the corner of Chartres and Frenchmen, and before you know it, you’ll be dancing in the streets like a local. Grab a bite or cocktails or both at one of the many restaurants and cafes that line the street. Traditional Creole, world fusion, Mexican, sushi and vegetarian options are all just steps away.
Bourbon Street
Bourbon Street, one of the world’s most renown streets. Located in the French Quarter, it’s Fat Tuesday every day of the week. Don’t be shy. Order a hurricane from Pat O’Brien’s in a “go-cup”(it’s legal to drink on the streets in New Orleans), put on your beads and take a stroll down New Orleans’ most famous party street. Take your chances riding a mechanical bull or whale (yes, seriously), take in a sexy burlesque performance or jam to the sounds of traditional jazz. Whatever your preference, Bourbon offers something for everyone overflowing with restaurants, clubs and history. Just walking this legendary street is bound to create a night to remember.
Harrah’s Casino
The South’s largest casino is located at the foot of Canal Street. This huge pleasure palace features five New Orleans themed areas comprising 2,100 of the newest and hottest slots and 104 fast-paced table games, live entertainment, and a lavish buffet. After dinner, catch a comedy show, concert or special event at Harrah’s multimillion-dollar theater.
And don’t forget the jazz clubs. New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz. Every night of the week, the streets and clubs of the Big Easy are alive with vibrant music. From traditional jazz to acid jazz, there’s something for every ear, every day of the week.
Get ready to have fun and see you all in NOLA for #nichemommy12.
