Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer and former Google Vice President shocked and angered many working moms, work from home moms, and mompreneurs for discontinuing social giant Yahoo’s policy to allow employees to telecommute. Later she did extend the maternity leave policy to a whopping 16 weeks for new moms and 8 weeks for dads.
Miley Cyrus shocked moms and dads (and just about everyone) when she twerked and fondled herself while dancing with a married man nearly twice her age during her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The former Disney star inspired a slew of blog posts and social media commentary from parents everywhere. Months later she’s still a hot topic on the blogosphere.
BatDad goes viral on Vine with Blake Wilson’s creative use of Vine to share parenting tips, tricks, hacks, and just about anything. The dad of four uses his alter ego to share some of the funniest six seconds of fatherhood on everything from potty training to driving his wife batty. Check out BatDad’s super funny compilation of videos on YouTube.
Reality TV mom, Kim Kardashian, surprised everyone when she skipped the photo shoot and multi-million dollar deal when posted the first photo of her baby North West on Instagram. Her onesie selfie shocked no one months later.
Mom to 2 year-old Blue Ivy, Beyonce, dropped a new, secret, self-titled album on Instagram. Bonus: on Beyonce’s YouTube channel, fans can view 30 second snippets of videos for each song on her album. The videos inspired many moms to start the new Beyonce diet/fitness plan in 2014.
Miles Scott, aka BatKid, the 5-year-old who is in remission from leukemia, melted hearts around the world when the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted his wish to help Batman save the day. His hometown of San Francisco was turned into Gotham City for a day. The world watched and rooted him on via social media as Batkid took action. Even POTUS took to social media to support Batkid! Big Kuddos to Clever Girls Collective for their brilliant social media marketing strategy in this great cause.
