Instagram continues to be a platform brands are interested in for collaborations with influencers. You may recall, we mentioned this in our 2019 Influencer Marketing Predictions list. As a result of this growing demand, Instagram is continuously rolling out updates and options that optimize sharing content for creators. At the end of 2018, Instagram Creator Account options were introduced. We’ll walk you through what you need to know about creating and maintaining an Instagram Creator Account.
What is an Instagram Creator Account?
It’s a new option for Instagram users that’s different from a personal profile or a business profile. Explore the latest for switching to an Instagram Creator Account below.
1. Creator Option is Rolling Out
If you looked into the settings of your Instagram account and noticed there is no option to switch from business > creator or from personal > creator, it’s because you may not have the option yet.
Select users with 10,000 or more followers have access to it first. It will likely expand to all Instagram account holders.
Community Member, Ashley Marshall-Seward of MommyWeek.com, showed us that she has the option to switch to a creator account in her settings, but she’s waiting to see more of its options before she makes the change.

2. Creator Account Insights
According to Instagram, “The Creator Account on Instagram gives you a set of tools that makes it easier to control your online presence, understand your growth and manage your messages.”
Creator account users have in-depth access to explore the growth or loss of followers. They also have options through Creator Studio on the desktop. If you’re familiar with Facebook Creator Studio, you can sync your Instagram creator account for access to all the insights.
3. Inbox Options
According to Instagram, “You have access to an inbox with [two] tabs with the Creator Account. It allows for organization and notification control between close friends, businesses and fans. This includes the ability to move messages between folders and the ability to disable inbox notifications.
With a creator account, users can also filter their inbox messages between the general tab and the primary tab.
You can flag messages that need attention, as well.

4. Categorize yourself
Just like the option on Facebook fan pages to identify your brand or personality, with an Instagram Creator Account you can choose to identify yourself into a category like TV host, chef or fitness expert.
For brand collaborations, there are benefits to categorizing your expertise.

5. Not connected to API
If you like to auto-publish posts to IG using a scheduler like Tailwind, as of June 2019 Instagram Creator accounts are not connected to the API. This may change as more Instagram Creator accounts are rolled out.
