A Niche Parent Community Member recently asked for help organically gaining Twitter followers because she knew some brands would like bloggers to have a larger following for consideration for some campaigns. One of the best ways to gain followers is to have a dedicated daily Twitter strategy. You can do it in as little as 60 minutes a day or more if you’d like to boost your numbers faster.
Daily Twitter Strategy
Morning & Evening Tweets
5 minutes – Tweet a morning message, inspirational quote or your outlook for the day. Reply to others’ morning messages on Twitter.
2 minutes – Update your Twitter profile. Add a link to your newest blog post or a special landing page for Twitter followers.
10 minutes – Spend time retweeting relevant tweets from others and or engage with fans/followers. Engage with any new fans you have recently followed by introducing yourself or starting a convo.
5 minutes – Look for upcoming Twitter Party announcements. Niche Parent recently hosted a #SneakerJam15 Twitter Party with Martell during for All-Star Weekend. Set a calendar reminder to come back and participate in Twitter chats and parties later in the day. Or schedule a few tweets for the party right then.
2 minutes – Tweet an end of the day message and preview what’s ahead for you tomorrow.
Schedule
10 minutes – Use Buffer, Hootsuite or Tweetdeck to schedule tweets of your own content. Repost past content related to holiday or seasonal events. Update your hashtags on past tweets.
8 minutes – Explore hashtags in your niche to see the latest trends. Schedule retweets of this content.
Plugins
8 minutes – Update the settings on plugins that tweet old posts like Evergreen Post Tweeter or Revive Old Post. These plugins allow you to add blog post categories and topics you’d like to be reshared on Twitter.
Apps
10 minutes – Using apps like Just Unfollow, Unfollowr, Twi Grow to unfollow Twitter accounts that aren’t following you back.
Once you have a robust Twitter following, consider ways to monetize it. Celebrities aren’t the only people who get paid to tweet.
Twitter has rules against aggressively following accounts just to gain followers. Especially if you have fewer than 2,000 Twitter followers. According to the Twitter Help Center’s following rules:
“You’ll need to wait until you have more followers in order to follow more users—for example, you can’t follow 10,000 people if only 100 people follow you. When you reach a daily or total limit and we show you an error message, you’ve hit a technical limit imposed to limit egregious behavior by spam accounts and to prevent strain on the site. These are just the technical limits for your account; in addition, you are prohibited from aggressive following behaviors. These behaviors may result in account suspension, regardless of your account’s technical ratio.”
Many of these steps can be used to grow an Instagram following as well. Take as little as 10 minutes a day to follow Instagram accounts in your niche and comment on their photos. See our past post: How to Be an Instant Instagram Star.
