2019: Hidden Likes
At the end of 2019, Instagram decided to hide likes on Instagram posts for U.S. users. Its CEO explained that the practice was launched to diminish the competitiveness of the platform and to encourage community engagement:

We should point out that Instagram users will be able to see all of the likes on their own posts, but visitors will be limited on the number of likes seen on posts they visit.

2018: Launched IGTV
To allow for long-format videos, Instagram launched IGTV, a stand-alone app. IGTV videos are viewable on the Instagram app and desktop.
