It can also lead to a steady freelance gig or even a full-time job at a marketing firm. Brands and public relations agencies hire bloggers to work for them to create or manage content. Influencers are also hired full-time for reality shows and TV shows. If your dream is to land a job to that builds on your blogging skills, here are some job hunting tips that have worked for our community members.
Effective Job Hunting Tips for Bloggers
1. Network Regularly
One way bloggers can get hired is by attending local networking events and registering for national conferences.
It’s also important to check-in regularly with your media contacts.
Danyelle Little blogs at TheCubicleChick.com and recently just landed a job with a St. Louis media company.
Danyelle says she didn’t network in the typical sense to land the job: “My current job as Director of Social Media and Digital Marketing wasn’t something that I searched for. I cultivated relationships with local media outlets for years, and when the opportunity presented itself, they came knocking on my door.”

2. Do Research on LinkedIn
Our CEO Nadia Jones reminded our community members in Effective LinkedIn Strategies for Bloggers that “Over 75% of people on LinkedIn are already using it to research people and companies. Research companies that you’re interested in aligning with and introduce yourself to an account representative, public relations specialist, or community relations person.”
Frequently update your job title.
Add links to your recent professionally published posts or media mentions.
Remember to use keywords that employers are looking for like content creator, writer, social media manager, or marketing manager.
Create an Online Portfolio
Bloggers often use their real names as a dot-com website to create an online portfolio. This site is separate from your blog’s content.
Another option is to create a free or premium About.Me page.
Include your bio, media clips, photographs, and an introduction letter on your professional website. Allow visitors to download your resume or work history.
