By now you’ve noticed your Twitter profile has a brand new look. Twitter first announced the updated web profiles in April 2014 where the changes were optional, then moved forward to automatically change everyone’s profile by the end of May 2014. Ask any Twitter follower and you’ll get a range of opinions on whether the changes are for the better. Among the most common observations are that Twitter looks strikingly similar to Facebook. Here’s a rundown of changes you can make thanks to the new Twitter layout that’s bigger and bolder when it comes to images.
Twitter Header and Profile Image
Your images on Twitter can now be bigger and bolder.
According to Twitter’s Support Page, “Recommended dimensions for profile photos are 400×400 pixels. Recommended dimensions for header photos are 1500×500 pixels.” Learn how to customize your new Twitter profile by uploading your new header and profile images.
Use all the real estate that a 1500 x 500 pixel header allows, but remembers 5 MB is the maximum. Create a new header that highlights your brand, business or blog events. Use a photo collage or banner to update your Twitter followers on your upcoming trip, plans to attend a conference like #NicheParent14 or new brand ambassadorship. If you aren’t confident in your graphic design skills, hire a professional designer. Ask fellow bloggers for a recommendation. Find an affordable designer on fiverr.com where tasks are done for as little as $5. Twitter offers users a beautiful gallery of header images to use, as well.
Pin a Tweet
Your Twitter timeline gives you the option to pin a tweet to the top of your feed. It’s just like the option to pin a post on Facebook. Pin a post where you’d like more views. Pin a YouTube clip of your latest video review. Pin your upcoming local event or Twitter Party. While these changes to Twitter may add one more thing to your to-do list, keep in mind it’s a great place to connect with brands for opportunities.
