Twitter Party Trends

Here is some insight on Twitter Party Trends from the experienced panelists and co-hosts in our community.

Diane Nassy (@philZENdia)  says she’s noticed the usual 60 minute Twitter Party is being extended:  “It’s harder for Twitter parties to trend as opposed to a few years ago. The speculation is that because we are using “ad” or “sponsored” it’s seen as advertising and Twitter wants that to be paid. I’ve seen some groups try to run longer parties (multiple hours with different influencers) to try to reach trending status because it’s looking like hashtags used over a longer period of time tend to trend easier.”

Zippy Sandler (@zipporahs) is energized by the trend of multimedia engagement: “As a host we have been encouraging participants to share more personal stories via their photos and videos. Even when we don’t ask for it I’m noticing that a lot of the partygoers are still sharing their photos during Twitter parties which I think is a great thing.”

Stacie (SimplyStacie) co-hosts Canadian Twitter parties and recognized the integration of live streaming: “One trend I’ve noticed with Twitter Parties is the integration of live streaming and Periscope. I co-hosted an event where a celebrity shared a lifestyle tip on Periscope related to Twitter Party topic. Also during the Twitter Party, participants were asked to ask questions from the expert that they’d answer live too.”

Stacie Connerty (@StacieInAtlanta) notices more live elements in parties too: “A few of my last Twitter parties have included a live component using Periscope or video where on-site correspondents were brought in. We have another party coming up with an in-store correspondent who will be asking some of the questions as well.”

Influencer Davinci (YourLifeAfter25) consults with brands for Twitter Parties and sees more brands requesting custom imaging to express the event’s rules and questions. She says Twitter Party images are “great for branding. Your Twitter Party engagement goes up. People pay attention to images. It catches their eye even for fast moving events.”
